Designed for pocket-hole systems, Kreg pocket-hole screws increase the strength of a pocket-hole joint. Cut-thread pattern prevents splitting. Coarse thread is for any combination of softwoods, plywood, and composites, and fine is for hardwoods.The Kreg 1-1/4-Inch No. 7 Fine Pocket Hole Screws with Pan-Head is ideal for 3/4-inch thick hardwood work pieces. The washer head prevents overdriving in pocket bottoms, which is especially critical in composite and plywood work pieces. The self-tapping type 17 auger tip eliminates the need to predrill, and its larger diameter steel shank creates a nearly unbreakable screw. The bronze-colored finish and dry-lubricant coating improves driving torque and rust resistance. This pack includes 1,000 hole screws.

Customer Review: Consistently top-notch screws, for pocket holes or general use

These, as with all Kreg screws I've tried (which includes at least 7 size/thread type combinations), are top of the line screws. I've never had one break, and I've really torqued some of them (with an impact driver) harder than they were intended. In contrast, I've broken several generic home-center screws; the heads tend to twist right off unless you're driving them into a waxed pilot hole in white pine. Not Kreg screws - they'll pull themselves into anything that your driver has enough torque for. I still tend to use pilot holes in harder woods, not because the screw won't make it, but because the wood will most likely fail (crack) before the screw stops or breaks.
I use these occasionally for pocket holes, and of course they're excellent in that application. More often, though, I use them for general-purpose fasteners. The square recess drive is much more solid and reliable than philips, which was DESIGNED to cam out before you can put too much torque on it. Also, the screws tend to balance on the driver bit, so you can work a little easier one-handed. Kreg's threads are well-formed and very consistent - you just don't see squished tips or mal-formed threads like you do with generic screws.
I also like to use them in walls to hang pictures, tools in the basement, etc. The flat head and partially-smooth shank make them ideal as small hangers.
And finally, Amazon'd bulk prices can't be beat.
